Aggieware

Photograph: hundreds of plates, bowls and cups are spread out on display at the Segundo Dining Commons for the launch of the Aggieware program

Aggieware, the reusable tableware program, will be used throughout the year for all student programs in the residence halls to reach University of California Office of the President's goal of 75% waste diversion by 2012 and zero waste by 2020.

The Aggieware program eliminates the purchase, use, and disposal of all paper products for programs, which makes additional funds available for the purchase of sustainable food options for these programs.

How the Program Works

Student Housing has purchased materials to provide one set of Aggieware for each Resident Advisor for use during programs.

Photograph: Each Aggieware set includes four kits: a "blue kit", "gold kit", "white kit" and "green kit"

The contents of a each set of Aggieware are:

    • The "Blue Kit" includes 20 plates and 20 forks
    • The "Gold Kit" includes 25 cups
    • The "White Kit" includes 20 bowls and 20 spoons
    • The "Green Kit" includes 50 recycled content napkins and BioTuf compost bag

Once a kit has been used and/or the seal on the container has been broken, the dirty dishes are returned to the Dining Room for cleaning. Compost bags containing napkins and food waste will also be returned to the Dining Room.

In exchange for dirty kits, the Dining Room will issue a clean and sealed kit of the same type.
