Requesting Roommates

Residence Halls

Incoming Fall Quarter

Student Housing residence hall applicants may submit a request to live with roommate(s) of their choice. Student Housing will attempt to honor roommate requests based upon available space and the amount of roommate requests received. However, applicants may not submit requests for suitemates.

Applicants may submit their roommate requests through the online application when they apply for Student Housing; select the "Roommate Request" button in the application.

Be sure to adhere to the following:

  • Requests must be mutual: each potential roommate must list other potential roommates in their application
  • Potential roommates must indicate identical living preferences on their applications
  • Meal plans do NOT need to match in order to be roommates

Students who wish to submit a roommate request after submitting their online application but before the application process has closed may log back into their online application to add their roommate request information. Requests received after the application process has closed (generally in late July or early August; refer to the Calendar for the specific date) cannot be honored.

Students who choose not submit a roommate request will be randomly assigned roommates based upon the housing preferences submitted in the residence hall application. NOTE: Student Housing does not use information about lifestyle, personal habits or culture to assign roommates. Applicants are not eligible to request suitemates.

Incoming mid-Fall, Winter or Spring Quarter

Students who intend to move into the residence halls after the academic year has begun (mid-fall, winter, or spring quarter) and desire to live with a particular roommate should contact Student Housing to determine availability and the appropriate process. Student Housing will attempt to honor roommate requests based upon available space and the amount of roommate requests received.

Apartments

The Green at West Village

Students who live at The Green can pick their own roommates. Students may elect to set up "roommate groups"—groups of students with whom they wish to live—in their housing application. Roommate groups need to be set up before the roommate group deadline. Students who have already submitted their application to live in The Green may refer to their application to view or make changes to their roommate groups (before any deadlines) in the MyHousing Portal. Students do not need to form or join a roommate group to live at The Green; those who are not in a roommate group will randomly receive roommates through the room selection process.

Solano Park

Students who apply for an apartment at Solano Park are responsible for determining their own roommates; there is not a roommate assignment process at Solano Park. Students who do not have a roommate but wish to live in a Solano Park apartment may opt to rent the entire apartment on their own. The Solano Park Office does not maintain a list of students who are looking for roommates.

Non-UC Davis On-Campus Apartments

For non-Student Housing managed campus properties - 8th and Wake, The Atriums at La Rue Park, The Baggins End Domes, The Colleges at La Rue, Russell Park, Tri-Cooperatives, and West Village, students should contact the properties directly to learn about their roommate assignment processes.
