Parking Regulations
Students living in the residence halls are are not eligible to purchase campus parking permits. Residence hall students may not bring a car to campus and instead are expected to utilize public transportation.
Students living in campus apartments and cooperatives should contact either the apartment office or Student Housing to determine what kind of parking options are available.
Orchard Park and Solano Park Apartments
Parking permits are required to park in the Orchard Park and Solano Park apartment complexes. Orchard Park and Solano Park decals (O-1, O-2, S-1, S-1 Reserved, S-2) and all Parks visitor permits are valid only in the Student Housing area(s) listed on the permit; they are not valid in any other UC Davis campus parking lot.
Orchard Park and Solano Park residents are not eligible to purchase campus parking permits (A, C, L, etc.). Refer to Welcome to the Parks for more information.
Guest Parking
Guests visiting students may purchase one-day parking passes for campus parking. Parking passes are available at or near the entrance of each campus parking lot. Guests of students living in campus apartments may be able to get a special visitor day-use parking pass from the apartment office.
History: Expansion of Residence Hall Program Reduces Available Parking
In response to long-term campus planning and increased enrollment at UC Davis, additional residence halls must be built. Ideally, residence halls should be built near classrooms, dining facilities, and support service buildings, meaning they need to be built on the central campus. As a result, and due to limited available campus land, several parking lots were selected as sites for new and future residence halls, reducing available campus parking. As a result, residence hall students do not have access to campus parking permits.
Appeal Process for Campus Parking Permits
A residence hall student with an extraordinary situation may appeal for an exception to the parking policy. To file an appeal, complete an appeal form, and submit the form with a letter of explanation and appropriate supporting documentation to Student Housing either in person or by mail.
Student Housing shall review all appeals and respond to students in writing. Exceptions will be granted based on legitimate need and availability. Appeals must be approved before a permit can be purchased. Students who are granted an exception shall be required to park in a specific parking lot and will not have full campus parking privileges. Parkway Circle residents who are granted an exception shall forfeit their LaRue Park parking permit.
Reasons that are considered invalid justifications include: the distance one lives from home, work obligations, vehicle ownership, and social activities.
Audits
All appeals submitted to Student Housing are subject to verification via audits. If audited, appeal applicants may be required to provide additional documentation verifying all information provided in the appeal. Students who falsify information shall have their appeals terminated, or their parking permits revoked, and they shall be referred to Student Judicial Affairs (Standards of Conduct policy 102.02).
