Segundo Area
Segundo is a collection of fourteen residence hall buildings on the Northwest corner of the central campus; approximately 1,575 residents call Segundo home. A large community building is located in the middle of the area, which houses the Area Service Desk, the Academic Advising Center, the Computer Center, the Media Resource Center, The Junction, and an assortment of study spaces. The dining commons are located in a state of the art building in the southwest corner of Segundo.
Segundo’s Residence Halls
Segundo’s residence halls are grouped into three clusters: a four-building cluster of high-rises, a seven-building cluster of smaller buildings, and a three-building cluster known unofficially as Segundo North.
Bixby Hall, Gilmore Hall, Malcolm Hall, and Ryerson Hall
Bixby Hall, Gilmore Hall, Malcolm Hall and Ryerson Hall, known collectively as the “high rises”, are four five-story buildings that house approximately 200 students in each building. Each building has a large community lounge with a fireplace and cable television, and a study lounge, on the ground floor. Mailboxes are also located on the ground floor of each building. Community bathrooms, laundry rooms, lounges, and kitchenettes can be found on each of the upper floors. All four buildings are surrounded by large expanses of lawn, where residents relax, study, and take part in recreational activities.
Traditional rooms offer panoramic views of the Davis campus through large picture windows. Most bedrooms are double-occupancy and measure approximately 13’8” x 10’7”; uncarpeted flooring is utilized in each room. All rooms feature climate control.
All four buildings are locked at all times. Access to each building is controlled by electronic locks; residents unlock exterior doors using their authorized registration/ID cards; traditional keyed locks are not used.
Regan Hall
Regan Hall houses about 400 students throughout seven relatively small, two- and three-story buildings, which are arranged around a large common building and outdoor courtyard and lawn. The common building features a large community lounge with a fireplace and cable television, and an upstairs study lounge. All of Regan Hall’s mailboxes are located in the common building. The courtyard is often the site of community recreational activities, and is a popular place for relaxing, talking, and studying.
Traditional rooms with uncarpeted flooring are found throughout Regan Hall, and both coed and single-sex floors are available. Most bedrooms are double-occupancy; there are a few single-occupancy rooms and a few quad-configuration double-occupancy rooms. All rooms feature climate control.
All seven buildings are locked at all times. Access to each building is controlled by electronic locks; residents unlock exterior doors using their authorized registration/ID cards. Residents access their rooms using a traditional key.
Alder Hall, Miller Hall, and Thompson Hall
Alder Hall, Miller Hall and Thompson Hall, unofficially known as Segundo North and which together house approximately 370 students, are four-story buildings arranged about a central plaza. Each building has a lounge with cable television, a study lounge, and a laundry room on the first floor; there are additional lounges on each floor. Thompson Hall has a large lounge which can be used for group activities; it also has a piano room and a kitchenette. Covered bicycle parking is available to residents.
The 200 sq. ft., carpeted rooms are arranged in clusters of four rooms and a shared bathroom. Clusters open into wide sections of hallway, creating a sort of common area porch, both helping accent the cluster and promoting social interaction. In addition, clusters share a large storage closet located outside of the rooms, off the main hallway. Rooms are either double- or triple-occupancy, and all rooms feature climate control.

Dining in Segundo
Segundo’s dining commons (DC) building, which is open to all residence hall residents, is located in the Southwest corner of Segundo. In addition to the DC, residents have easy access to The Junction, a convenience store well-stocked with drinks, snacks and more, which is located in the Segundo Services building. Advantages of the Segundo Area
Cannot decide which housing area is best? Remember that all housing areas are equitable and are complete with everything a resident needs for growth and success, but review the following list to see which features help differentiate Segundo from the other housing areas.

- Near the Cowell Student Health Center
- Close proximity to the Recreation Pool, and basketball and tennis courts
- Sports fields are located nearby
- Short walk to several campus computer labs
- The Bookstore, Memorial Union, and Quad are a short walk or bike ride away
- Closest of the three residence hall areas to most plant science, enology, math, psychology and social science and humanities buildings
- Several acres of manicured lawns and shade trees
- Very close proximity to community shopping
