You just moved into the residence halls - now what?

Student Housing offers many amenities to residence hall students, including academic and computer resources, a service desk for general questions and help, and free movies.

You want to be sure to get oriented quickly - certainly during the first few weeks of the year - so here's a list of items to help get you started:

  • Check your mailbox! If you haven't checked it yet, you have mail and announcements waiting for you. If you have, great. Keep up on it; there will be more announcements.
  • Resource Faires - each area hosts a Resource Faire opening week, beginning Monday night at 5:30pm in Segundo. Make sure you attend one of them to learn more about campus departments - they're here especially for you.
  • Area Service Desk - get familiar with all of the services available at the Area Service Desk. If you have a question or a problem, this is a great place to look for answers.
  • Academic Advising Centers - Academic Advising Centers (AACs) are available to all residence hall students throughout the year. Check the webpage for a list of services and resources - services include peer tutoring! - as well as AAC hours. There is one AAC in each housing area (Segundo, Tercero, Cuarto) so you don't have to walk far.
  • Computer Centers - Visit a computer center for help with your computer, to use one of our computers, for printing, or just to have a different place to work and study.
  • Movies - Student Housing broadcasts feature films on two channels - channel 25 and 28 - so there is a plethora of movie entertainment to fill the gaps between classes and studying. Check out our online listings to plan ahead. Channel 27 also broadcasts movie schedules in between other announcements, and channel 16 occasionally broadcasts movie trivia.
  • Jobs - keep an eye on the Student Housing employment webpage and the UC Davis jobs board so you'll be ready when that perfect student job becomes available. And remember: Student Housing recruits for its RA and SRA positions during winter quarter, so to those who are interested: be ready to apply.
  • Calendar - refer to the Calendar to plan for Student Housing deadlines, including opportunities to change meal plans to plan for residence hall closures during holidays.
  • Diversity Calendar - new for 2009, the annual Student Housing Diversity Calendar is now available online instead of its former print version. Keep up on holidays and events that go well beyond our personal experiences and knowledge - broaden your understanding.
  • Sustainability - also new for 2009, Student Housing completely redeveloped its Sustainability website to deliver much more content specifically focused on sustainable housing, Case Studies, and student-focused programs and competitions.

Remember to navigate other areas of the website to learn more about Student Housing, and use the Site Index and search engine to look for specific topics of interest. if you have further questions or concerns that are not addressed by the above resources or elsewhere on our website, please contact Student Housing.
