Simple Solutions to Common Room Problems

(Download a PDF of this list)

For All Residence Halls:

  • I can’t get the cable TV stations.
Be sure your TV is set to cable, not antenna. Once on the cable setting, use your remote to run the auto-program/auto-tune on your menu.
  • I don’t have a cable TV connection, but my roommate does.
UCD Student Housing provides one cable TV hookup per bedroom. You and your roommate will need to share.
  • I am having problems with my Ethernet (ResNet) connection.
Call the Network Operations Center (NOC) directly for service. (530) 752-7656 or (530) 754-4357
  • I want to submit a repair request for a problem that is not in my room.
In the description field of the repair request, tell us exactly where and what the problem is.
  • I am having problems with my Microfridge.
Call ASUCD directly for service. (530) 752-1990
  • I am having problems with my telephone landline.
Call Communications Resources directly for service. (530) 752-5945
  • I want to reconfigure my bed.
You are responsible for reconfiguring your bed. Necessary tools can be checked out from your area service desk. Instructions can be found online at www.housing.ucdavis.edu/publications in the “Informational Publications” section. Printed instruction handbooks are in many rooms.
  • I need a bed ladder.
A request for a bed ladder must be made in person at your area service desk. Student Housing staff will install the ladder for you.
  • I need an additional bed rail and there’s not another extra one in my room.
You’ll need to borrow one from a neighbor in your building. Student Housing has none in storage. (Kearney and Laben Residents, please submit a repair request.)
  • I can’t open my mailbox.
To dial your combination, the sequence is left, right, left, but then you must turn right to open.

For Cuarto Only:

  • The Ethernet (ResNet) connection in my common room doesn’t work.
UCD Student Housing does not provide connectivity in the common room. We only provide connectivity in the bedrooms.
  • The wall plugs in my bathroom don’t work.
Somewhere in your bathroom there is a 2-plug wall receptacle with two small rectangular buttons in the space between the two plugs. This is part of an electric shock prevention system required in bathrooms. Push the button marked “reset” and your power will be restored.
  • I turn on the light switch in my room and no light comes on. (Webster & Emerson only)
The light switch near the door in each Webster and Emerson bedroom is directly connected to the wall plug marked with a blue dot. (In the “A” bedroom, this light switch is located in the closet.) Plug a desk or floor lamp into this plug, then you can operate it with the switch.

For Thille Hall & Pierce Hall Only:

  • I can’t lock my room door.
When leaving your room you must put your key in the lock and turn it 360 degrees to lock the door.
  • The Ethernet (ResNet) connection in my bedroom doesn’t work. (Quads only)
The active connections are in the common room. Put your cable through the tube in the wall for computer use in your bedroom.

For Alder, Kearney, Laben, Miller, and Thompson Halls Only:

  • How do I turn off my heating/cooling unit?
We are sorry, but the unit cannot be turned off. Code for buildings this new requires fresh air to be circulating at all times.

For Regan Quads only:

  • The Ethernet (ResNet) connection in my bedroom doesn’t work.
The active connections are in the common room. Put your cable through the tube in the wall for computer use in your bedroom.
